Five Ways to Keep Your Pup Cool in the Warmer Weather

Warmer weather means more grooming, especially in Las Vegas. As the hotter days are creeping in our dogs are feeling it as much as we are so we need to make sure they’re taken care of too. Temperatures rising means that we all need a change in routines to beat the heat and our furry companions require special attention too. Here are five ways to keep your pup cool in the warmer weather.

1. REGULAR BRUSHING

Brushing your dog regularly is crucial for many reasons. Most importantly, it helps remove unnecessary loose fur which can be uncomfortable for your pet, particularly in warmer weather. Second, brushing promotes air circulation through your dog’s coat, aiding in natural cooling. Pro tip, make sure you’re using a brush that’s appropriate for your dog’s coat type and length, and aim to brush them at least 3 times weekly!

2. TRIM THEIR COAT

This one depends on breeds but if applicable, make sure you’re giving them regular trims in the hotter months to keep them cool. Warmer weather means they’re more likely to overheat and while some breads shouldn't be shaved, they can be trimmed to more manageable lengths while still offering some protection from the sun.

3. PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR PAWS

Las Vegas, just like many other cities, gets extremely hot in the warmer months so dogs paws can easily burn. Hot pavement and surfaces can burn their sensitive paw pads so it’s necessary to take precautions. We recommend getting protective booties or applying paw balm if you’re going out in extreme heat or if it’s possible, go out in cooler times of the day like early morning or evening.

4. BATH TIME

We know bathing them can get messy but regular baths are essential for keeping your dog clean and smelling fresh. Just like us, they sweat when they’re active or dealing with warmer weather so make sure they are kept clean just don’t overdo it. You never want to bathe them too often or it can strip their skin of natural oils and lead to dryness or irritation, which definitely isn’t comfortable in warmer weather. Pro tip, use lukewarm water and mild dog shampoo.

5. PLENTY OF HYDRATION

Hydration is key for anyone in warmer months, it keeps them healthy and cool during warmer weather months. Make sure their water bowl is always filled and if you’re leaving the house, have a doggy bottle on the go! Pro tip, we love to add ice cubes to our dogs water for even better cooling and hydration.
